Adventurous Unusual Painting and Decorating Ideas

Anybody can pick a color and paint a wall, but if you're a brave soul who really wants to up the ante (while avoiding hard-to-remove wall treatments), try one of these envelope-pushing ideas.
When we toured Emily's Houston home we were floored by her show-stopping bright blue paint job. It really takes her already-cute living room over the edge into fantastic. The sharp angles create a focal point for the room -- almost like a spotlight -- highlighting the collection of books and art on display.
Who says only your walls get to have all the fun? Friend of AT, Mat Sanders' Brooklyn home features painted parquet floors! We love how the color really perks up what can be a dated design.
This Spanish home from Egue Seta (above and below) has not one, but three colorful ombréd walls. We love how this almost looks colorblocked, but the ombre technique makes the transition from one color to the other look softer, more organic and helps the contrasting colors feel less harsh when placed next to each other.

Check out Kelly's smart, subtle yet still quirky faux molding. She not only adds interest and visual texture to her boxy room, she also lengthens her walls and brightens her ceiling.

This hallway (spotted at Lonny) is certainly not for the faint of heart. It takes major bravery to try a look like this, but given that hallways are usually a snooze, it's refreshing to see them getting some decor attention for a change.
Who except true pioneers would dare paint a classic Victorian black? Roger and Chris really show their stellar style before you even walk in the (bright pink!) front door.
So, do you dare? What's been your most adventurous paint project?
